Using the Internet

The internet is a very useful place to get information on Sociology. However, you need to be careful with the things that you read as they might not be accurate and could also confuse you.

One of the most resourceful site for Sociology is Sociology Central, which can be found in the following link:

http://www.sociology.org.uk/

I'm sure that most of you might have come across this site and I personally think that it is very useful for gaining knowledge about various ideas regarding the subject. It contains revision notes, mind maps, etc. that will help you in your exam. However, you need to select information that is RELEVANT, as there is so much information that could be found on Sociology Central that might require a higher level of learning (University standard).

Therefore, try to look for useful references from that site and also read around the relevant A Level topics to improve your knowledge and understanding.

Work hard.

Sociology Pre U2 Preliminary Exam

Dear students

I'm sure you all know that your test will be on Tuesday (27/04/2010) from 11.00 - 12.00

The format (as I have already explained) will be based on the Sociology A2 Exam structure:

(a) worth 3 marks (write 2-3 sentences)
(b) worth 6 marks (write 6 sentences)
(c) worth 16 marks (write an essay that is about three pages long)

The topic will be on FAMILIES AND HOUSEHOLDS.

Therefore, read your notes first before reading your textbooks.

You need to MEMORIZE at least 25 names/references/studies for the test in order to get a very good result.

Consider what each perspective would say about the family e.g. Functionalism

*Hint* Don't forget to include the negative aspects of family life.

Good luck.

P.S. Sociology Extra Classes will commence as usual after the Preliminary Exam. If for any reason you cannot attend please schedule a time to meet me on a regular school day. The 'AS' exam is coming soon, so make the most of the time you have left.
